O gbóná fẹlifẹli means “It is steaming hot”. This is a common Yoruba expression that Yorùbá People use to express their feeling about the temperature of something particularly food.
For example, popular Yoruba swallow food, Amala is known for its ability to retain heat for a long time and so it is commonly referred to as, “Àmàlà tó ǹ gbóná fẹlifẹli”
It could also be applied to a person with very hot body temperature especially a person that is sick with fever.
An example in Yorùbá to address a sick person’s temperature is; Ara rẹ kọ ǹ gbóná fẹlifẹli ni. (Meaning-: His/her temperature is just too steaming hot).
Ọ gbóná fẹlifẹli could also mean, “Trending”. When a news is trending or a fashion item is trending, Yoruba People can say that “O gbóná fẹlifẹli”.
Ọ gbóná fẹlifẹli is a very common and frequently used Yoruba Expression. It could mean that a food is hot, a news story is hot, or a person’s body temperature is alarmingly hot.
